Billie suffers from navicular syndrome (inflammation/degeneration of the navicular bone and surrounding tissues, usually involving the front feet).

The outcome in most cases is not good, and often means eventual euthanization to put the animal out of its constant pain.

Equine hydrotherapy, conducted in a large tub or by hosing, is an all-natural cold salt water lower leg treatment for issues such as injury, lamitis (a disease of the hoof) or navicular syndrome, among others.

Billie has shown remarkable progress in the year that Lisa has owned and been treating the gelding.

She could tell that Oz's back was giving him trouble when he could not catch a snake, and he has "always been a hunter," Gorman said. Being 91 years old, in human years, and slightly overweight contributed to a degeneration of the discs in Oz's lower back.

Oz received two other treatments May 13 and 20 and, according to Scoma, Wednesday's would be his last. After his treatment, Oz circled the room seemingly refreshed and with a youthful excitement."
